AN ACT TO AMEND THE PARLIAMENT (POWERS AND PRIVILEGES) ACT

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows:

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Parliament (Powers and Privileges) (Amendment) Act, No. 37 of 1987.

Amendment of section 23 of Chapter 383.

2. Section 23 of the Parliament (Powers and Privileges) Act (hereinafter referred to as the” principal enactment “), is hereby amended in subsection (1) of that section by the substitution in paragraph (b) for the words to a fine not exceeding five thousand rupees “, of the words to a fine “.

Amendment of section. 28 of the principal enactment”.

3. Section 28 of the principal enactment as amended by Law No.5 of 1978, is hereby further amended by the repeal of subsection (1) of that section, and the substitution therefor of the following subsection :

” (1) The punishment which may be imposed by Parliament for any offence specified in Part A of the Schedule to this Act shall be imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding two years or a fine or both such fine and imprisonment.”.
