Assisted Schools And Training Colleges (Amendment)(Special provisions)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE ASSISTED SCHOOLS AND TRAINING COLLEGES (SPECIAL PROVISIONS) ACT, NO. 5 OF 1960.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Assisted Schools and Training Colleges (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Act, No. 65 of 1981.

Insertion of new section 6A in Act No. 5 of 1980.

2. The Assisted Schools and Training Colleges (Special Provisions) Act, No. 5 of 1960, (hereinafter referred to as the ” principal enactment”) as amended by Act No. 3 of 1961, is hereby further amended by the insertion, immediately after section 5 thereof, of the following new section:

” Financial assistance to unaided schools.

5A. Notwithstanding anything contained in section 5, the Director-General of Education may give financial assistance by way of grants from State funds to any unaided school which was a Grade I or Grade II Assisted school (not being an Assisted training college) the proprietor of which at any time before the date specified in the Order made and published under section 3 served a written notice on the Director-General of Education that he has elected under subsection (1) of section 5 to administer such school as an unaided school. Any aid given under this section shall be subject to such conditions applicable in respect of all such schools as may be imposed by regulations made by the Minister.”.

Retrospective effect of amendment;

3. The amendment made to the principal enactment by section 2 of this Act shall be deemed for all purposes to have Come into force on January 1, 1980.
