Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) AN ACT TO AMEND THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES ELECTIONS ORDINANCE. BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the House of Representatives of Ceylon in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same., as follows: – Short title. 1. This Act may be cited as the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Act, No. 9 of 1972. Amendment of section 9 of Chapter 262. 2. Section 9 of the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance is hereby amended in subsection (1) thereof as follows: – (1) in paragraph (e), by the substitution, for the words ” a salary from such authority “, of the words ” a salary from such authority, or is a person whose employment by such authority was terminated within a period of one year before the date of the election of members to such authority ”: and (2) by the substitution, for paragraph (j), of the following paragraph: – ” (j) is a member of the Local Government Service constituted by the Local Government Service Act, No. 18 of 1969: Provided that nothing herein contained shall extend to a person who holds a post the initial of the salary scale of which is less than Rs. 6,720 per annum, if he seeks election to a local authority under which he is not employed at the time of the election in question, or under which he was not employed during a period of one year immediately preceding such election; or”.
